Anyone who has ever farmed in Illinois knows firsthand about the brutal winds, hard rains and unexpected hail, all which can wreak havoc on crops.
Introducing our new greenhouses! These will enable us to grow early vegetables as well as offer tomatoes and English cucumbers to our customers.

We have constructed two of them so far, and tiny plants thrive in the moist air and out of the wild spring weather. And a blast of hail actually blew in suddenly a few nights ago. The greenhouses withstood the thunderstorm onslaught. Success!
Named "high tunnels," these greenhouses do not have any heating or cooling system. Their main purpose is to protect the plants from the violent weather. While they extend the growing season a bit, these high tunnels cannot sustain
plant life throughout the winter.

To keep with our organic and sustainable goals the tunnels heat up with the sun and vent by opening up the ends or rolling up the sides instead of using any electric or biofuel power source.
Most greenhouses grow plants in pots on tables. High tunnels are constructed to allow plants to grow directly in the dirt and big enough for small farm implements to cultivate the weeds.
We are excited to see how our new additions increase our productivity!
